As you can probably tell from recent issues of Inner Circle, I’m pretty excited about the upcoming Women in Retail Leadership Summit! It’s taking place at the Four Seasons in Miami from April 26-28, and we’d love to have you join us! Rooms are going fast, so register now!
I’m also excited to announce that we’ve just signed on our newest keynote speaker, Barbara Bradley Baekgaard, co-founder, chief creative officer and director of Vera Bradley. In her role at the iconic brand, Barbara has provided leadership, strategic direction and creative vision to marketing, product design and assortment planning, as well as to the design and visual merchandising of the company’s brick-and-mortar stores.
Barbara has also earned industry recognition and received numerous awards, including the Gifts and Decorative Accessories Industry Achievement Award in 2006, the Country Living Entrepreneur Award in 2007, and the Lifetime Achievement Award from AmericasMart/Icon Honors in 2014. In August 2016, Barbara accepted the ACE Humanitarian Award from the Accessories Council in New York City.
Barbara is also very involved in philanthropy. In 1994, the loss of Barbara’s dear friend Mary Sloan to breast cancer inspired Barbara (with Vera Bradley co-founder Patricia Miller) to establish the Vera Bradley Foundation for Breast Cancer. To date, the Foundation has raised approximately $28 million for breast cancer research at the Indiana University Melvin and Bren Simon Cancer Center.
We’ll be featuring a Q&A with Barbara in the weeks ahead, so stay tuned!
Also, we have a great issue of Inner Circle this week, featuring the latest installment from our sister brand Total Retail’s Top Women in Retail 2017. This week we have an interview with Shira Goodman, president and CEO of Staples. We also have an article on health and wellness by Pamela Scanlon, owner of the health coaching company Well Rounded Wellness. Pam’s article focuses on a quick way to boost productivity every day.
