One of my favorite quotes from one of my favorite people 🙂

Yesterday, Philadelphia become the city of sisterly love as it hosted the 14th annual Pennsylvania Conference for Women. With 12,000 women strong, the event is the largest annual gathering of women in the country. This year’s speaker lineup included fabulous women such as Dr. Brené Brown, a New York Times best-seller and acclaimed TED Talk speaker; Carla Harris, vice chairman, wealth management director and senior client advisor at Morgan Stanley; and, the highlight of the day, former First Lady Michelle Obama.

We had a chance to listen to Michelle Obama’s conversation with author, writer, producer (and creative genius behind TGIT!) Shonda Rhimes, in which they discussed leadership and how women can lift other women up. Below are just a few of the quotes from Michelle Obama that stood out to us:

On Growing Leaders: “We want to be a part of developing the next generation of leaders. We don’t want to be the ones to hold on too long, but help develop the next generation to replace us.”

On “Imposter Syndrome”:It took me a while to feel comfortable. Some of it has developed over time. But I realized when I was in the room no one was any smarter or better then I was. And that’s what we’re working towards — how do we instill that in our young girls?”

On Getting a “Seat at the Table”: “You have to voice your opinions. This is what happens when we don’t stand up, we give our seats up to people who are ‘supposed to be’ because we have notions of what power and success have to be.”

We celebrated women in leadership yesterday from the PA Women’s Conference in Philadelphia as well at WIRLC’s Girl Talks East event in New York City! We’ll be featuring some of our favorite moments from the latter event in the upcoming weeks.

Until Next Time!
