In the Winter 2016 issue of Total Retail (sister brand of Women in Retail Leadership Circle), the cover story featured the publication’s annual list of the leading female executives in the retail industry. To get know the 17 honorees better, Total Retail sent them each six questions. Here are select answers from some of this year’s honorees to the question, “How would you describe your leadership style?”

Shelley Broader, President and CEO, Chico’s
Straightforward, upbeat and curious. I truly enjoy working waist-deep with a team of people who bring their individual strengths and opinions to the table. I get energized working with others to get great things done while having a great time doing so. I taught, learned, grew and celebrated with many colleagues throughout my career. I also bill myself as a coordinator of experts. I surround myself with talented people and make sure they function like a cabinet rather than a House of Representatives. The executive committee isn’t just there to represent their individual areas of the business; they’re there to help me run a business and increase stakeholder value.

Mariah Chase, CEO, Eloquii
Relaxed. As a team, we’re headed towards the same goals and my role is to make sure those goals are clear and I’m doing the best I can to support the team as we grow.

Bonnie Orofino, Chief Merchandising Officer, Restoration Hardware
Inclusive. I believe in empowering people to do their jobs. I’m there to help them be successful in them.
